What if I lost my emissions test notice in Illinois? ›

If you lose your emissions test notice, you can check the current status of your car's testing requirements through the Illinois Title and Registration Status Inquiry.

Most 1996 and newer gasoline-powered passenger vehicles are subject to emissions inspections after they are four years old (e.g. 2012 vehicles are being inspected in 2016 for the first time). The inspection month coincides with the expiration date of the vehicle license plate.

If you were due for an emissions test this year, you will need to complete that requirement next year prior to getting your license plate renewal sticker.
